Ray, your AI Reddit marketing agent

Every day, people ask Reddit which tool, product or service they should choose, and many of those threads rank on Google and get quoted by AI assistants. Ray is Toby’s AI Reddit marketing agent: he finds the conversations where your product genuinely helps and drafts replies that answer the question first and always say who you are. You read the draft, change what you want and post it from your own account. Ray never posts for you.

Reddit reply draftExample

A thread worth answering, with a disclosed reply

Thread: r/freelance, “What do you all use for invoicing? Spreadsheets are killing me” (found through web search) Why answer: recent, the person compares three tools and asks specifically about late payments. Draft reply: I went through the same spreadsheet phase. Three things matter more than the brand of tool: 1. Automatic reminders. Most late payments are forgotten invoices, not bad clients. A reminder 3 days and 10 days after the due date covers most cases. 2. A payment link on the invoice itself. One click beats “please mail us a check”. 3. Taxes. If you bill clients in several states or countries, check how the tool handles sales tax before you import anything. If you only send two or three invoices a month, a template plus calendar reminders is honestly enough. Disclosure: I’m one of the people behind Lumio, an invoicing app for freelancers. It does reminders and payment links, but the tips above work with any tool.
Example for Lumio, Toby’s fictional demo invoicing app. You post it yourself, from your own account.
Thread shortlistExample

A shortlist of threads, with a verdict for each

Example: 5 threads for Maison Sable (scented candles) 1. r/candles, “Candles that actually fill a big living room?” Answer. A direct product question, no promotion ban in the visible rules. 2. r/HomeDecorating, “Housewarming gift ideas?” Maybe. Only as a genuine gift list, brand mentioned once with disclosure. 3. r/BuyItForLife, “Are expensive candles worth it?” Answer, carefully. Explain wax types and burn time honestly; brand only in the disclosure line. 4. r/Frugal, “Cheapest way to make my apartment smell nice” Skip. A premium candle is off-topic here. 5. r/candlemaking, “How do brands get such a strong scent throw?” Answer without any link. The audience is makers, not buyers; share know-how.
Example for Maison Sable, Toby’s fictional candle brand. In a real shortlist, every link comes from search results.
RecommendationExample

A recurring question turned into a recommendation

Title: Answer the 6 recent “invoicing app for freelancers” threads Why: six threads found through web search ask the same question; two of them came up in search results for “best invoicing app freelancer reddit”. Example estimate: +80 to 200 qualified visits a month, if the replies stay helpful and the threads keep ranking. Effort: Low, about an hour. First step: 6 disclosed reply drafts, one per thread, each adapted to its subreddit’s rules.
Example recommendation card for a fictional company. Impact is an order of magnitude, not a promise.

The playbooks

  1. 1

    Value-first reply

Answer the question completely, as if you could not mention your product at all. Then mention it only if it truly helps, with a clear disclosure. One reply, one person helped.

  2. 2

    Finding threads without the API

Web searches such as “site:reddit.com [topic] recommendation”, “site:reddit.com [competitor] alternative” or “site:reddit.com [problem] help”. Only links that appeared in the results are shared, with what the snippet shows.

  3. 3

    Buying-intent scan

Priority goes to threads where someone is choosing: “which tool”, “alternative to”, “is it worth it”, “recommendations”. Threads are ranked by relevance and freshness; older ones are kept only if they still show up in search.

  4. 4

    Be useful where buyers ask

From Toby’s library of proven plays: when communities regularly ask “what should I use for X?”, a few honest answers bring qualified visits and get picked up by AI assistants. Deliverable: the threads to answer and the disclosed drafts.

How approval works

  • Ray never posts on Reddit. Every reply is a draft in Content that you read, edit and post yourself.

  • Each draft includes a disclosure line. You can reword it, but Ray will not write a reply that hides your affiliation.

  • In “Suggest only”, Ray lists threads and explains what to say without creating drafts. In the default “Ask before publishing”, the drafts are ready to copy.

  • Autopilot changes nothing here: with no Reddit connection, nothing can be posted automatically.

Security and trust

Tools Ray works with

A direct Reddit connection is waiting for Reddit to approve Toby’s app. Until then, Ray finds threads through web search and you post the replies from your own account, then click “Mark as published”.

Frequently asked questions

Is it allowed to promote my product on Reddit?

Reddit lets people who work on a product take part, as long as they are transparent and not spamming. Each subreddit then adds its own rules, and many ban self-promotion outside dedicated threads. Ray’s drafts always disclose the affiliation and he flags communities where a mention would break the rules. When in doubt, the draft helps without naming the brand.

Does Ray post on Reddit for me?

No. Reddit requires its approval before an app can post through its API, and that approval is pending. Ray prepares the reply; you post it from your own account and click “Mark as published” so Toby keeps track. Even later, Reddit replies would stay under your approval.

How does Ray find threads without the Reddit API?

With web searches restricted to reddit.com, using the words buyers use: “recommendation”, “alternative to”, “best … for …”. Coverage is narrower than the API would give, and the newest threads may not be indexed yet. In exchange, every link Ray shares appeared in real search results, so you never get an invented thread.

Will my Reddit account get banned?

Bans usually come from posting the same link everywhere, from accounts that only promote, or from ignoring a subreddit’s rules. Ray’s approach avoids those patterns, but the account is yours and moderators have the final word. Use an account with a real history, and keep answering questions where you have nothing to sell.

Why does Reddit matter for AI search?

Reddit threads often show up in Google results for “best X for Y” searches and are widely quoted by AI assistants. A helpful answer in a thread that ranks can be read by buyers for a long time. Toby’s onboarding audit includes an AI-visibility test that shows whether your brand comes up in assistants’ answers today.

Is Ray included in the subscription?

Yes. Toby has a single plan, $99 a month per company, and it includes the whole team of 12 AI agents, Ray among them. It starts with a 7-day free trial.
